Among other goodies, 3rd PlanIt offers these tools and techniques to avoid headaches later:

• Visible Alerts for:
  • curves having less than your defined minimum radius
  • open-ended track
  • track having insufficient vertical or horizontal clearance relative to other track
  • exceeding your defined maximum grade
• Running a train in 3D on your plan allows you to see:
  • if any coupler ends separate due to curve transitions
  • if your rolling stock “hits” anything such as low-hanging benchwork or tunnel portals (the vertical and horizontal clearance checks above only check for nearby trackage)
  • if there are any track segments that don’t go where you expect
  • unexpected dips or rises in the track elevation
